Education in your corner: October 29, 2015

Good Morning Readers!

Here is another education in your corner post. However, I do want to say this about the news that happened yesterday. Well, the news I covered yesterday, to be honest.

One of the topics were child brides. How do you feel about your daughter being married off at the tender age of 9 or 10? Isn't that bad enough? Well, how about your daughter being married off at the age of 9 or 10 with no education? Yes, in India that's what is happening with these poor girls. However, at least in their culture, the girls are a burden to the parents because she is going to live with her husband and his relatives.

The story I covered was about a boarding school that takes child brides and gives them an education to make them more valuable in life and to their husbands.

The next topic I covered, had to do with why Germany gives out free college education while we in America do not. Well, you will be surprised that not many German people actually go to college. Nonetheless, it was very interesting to see why they get free education and we do not.

Here are the links to the articles for the above topics.

Why is a High School Education Important for Child Brides?
In India Veerni Insitute is where child brides and girls alike go to get their high school education. Sharma explains what it is like at the Institute.

Why Can You Get a Free College Education in Germany, But Not in America?
While the United States still struggle with affordable college education, Germany gives free college education to the people residing in their country.

Education in your corner: October 27-28, 2015

Ah, time got away from me yesterday. I completely forgot to post the daily education in your corner post. However, you will get two days in one; that is so exciting!

Just wanted to say it looks as if Common Core is not what the states want. In the last week, Common Core was rejected by Arizona and was the key factor to test scores declining in New Jersey.

Nevada is having issues of their own with ACLU and the national test averages declined also. Is there a link to all of this? Possibly! Stay tuned and I will update you on what I find.

U.S. Performance on National Test Drops
The 2015 results are in and revealed there was a decrease in passing the reading and math National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Nevada School Choice Program Challenged by ACLU
The ACLU is challenging the Nevada school choice because it is in violation of using taxpayer dollars for religious schools.

Common Core Standards Rejected in Arizona

Education in your corner: October 26, 2015

Good Afternoon!

I do want to say this, to me it seems as if states are shying away from Common Core. It seems as if they want to make children feel smarter as they not holding them to high standards. I don't mean having ridiculously high standards, but hold them to standards that is attainable.

Granted, when I was a kid (and it wasn't that long ago) we dealt with FCAT year after year. Do I think that really helped us be who we are? Well, no. Then again, you are talking to a girl who sucked at the test. Should that tell your teachers, parents, and community about how smart you are or how dumb you are? No. Just because someone is better at testing than others should not dictate anything.

Enough off of that. Here is the latest education news.

Nicky Morgan approves the first Grammar School in England. This is the first Grammar School in the last 50 years.

Northeastern University is offering siblings and parents 25 percent off tuition costs for their graduate programs.

There you have it guys, the education news for October 26, 2015. Stay tuned tomorrow for another Education in your corner.
